United Air Lines is the worlds leading airline. They have the most numerous destinations and scheduled passenger-kilometer flown. They employ 86,852 people and is a subsidiary of United Continental Holdings, formerly UAL Corporation, with corporate headquarters in Chicago. Their largest hub is at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. United is a founding member of the Star Alliance, and offers connections to over 1,000 destinations in over 170 countries worldwide.
They were founded in 1926 as Varney Air Lines and in 1927 were purchased by Boeing Air Transport. Then, in 1934 United became an independent company, merging with Capital Airlines in 1961. Finally,in 2011, United merged with Continental Airlines.
The airline operates 705 aircraft, consisting of narrowbody (Airbus A320 family, Boeing 737 Next Generation, and Boeing 757) and widebody (Boeing 747, Boeing 767, 777, and 787) aircraft.
