Kia Motors South Korean car manufacturer, the second biggest in Korea, after Hyundai Motor Company. It is partly owned by Hyunday Motor Group, the fourth largest in the world after Toyota, GM and Vokswagen. In 2010 it sold 1.4 million vehicles.
The word Kia derives from "to arise to the world from Asia" in Korean.
It was set in 1944 as a steel tubes and bicycle parts manufacturer. Then in 1951 it began producing bicycles itself, then changed to motorcycles until finally starting producing trucks (1962) and cars (1974).
In 2011 it had a net income of 2.99 billion USD and 42,000 employees in 2009.
